How Much Will a New Kitchen Cost?

Information overload planning your kitchen remodel.

How much will it cost to remodel a kitchen?

This is the number one question we are asked by visitors to our showroom. It is a difficult question to answer because every project is different. The cost of a kitchen remodel depends on a number of factors, such as the size of the room, choice of finishes, and scope of work.

Making an appointment with one of our kitchen designers to measure and evaluate your current space is the best way to know “how much.”

Factors that Influence the Cost of a Kitchen Remodel

Unknown factors are one of the reasons why many homeowners have a difficult time determining on their own the cost of a kitchen remodel. Cabinets and counter tops are the most obvious costs, but your flooring preferences and major layout changes can have a large impact on the bottom line. Building code guidelines for something as simple as under-cabinet lighting might require changes at your electrical panel. A professional with years of remodeling experience will be looking out for these and dozens of other considerations before estimating your project.

Misinformation about Kitchen Remodeling Costs

Due to the volume of misinformation on the Internet, it’s almost impossible to match your goals with online resources realistically without the assistance of a kitchen professional. You can go online and one “expert” claims that the average price of a kitchen remodel is $21,000 and another “expert” will write that the average cost of a mid-range renovation is $63,000 while a third will tell you that an upscale full renovation will be around $53,000.

Equally misleading are percentage guides for estimating. For example, guides that specify 30% of the budget for cabinetry, 10% for counter tops, 10% for flooring, etc. will not allow for your remodeling priorities. If you are head-over-heels in love with a particular granite counter top, 10% might be insufficient. It is similar to trying to estimate the cost of a new car without knowing the model, the make and special features.

Information Overload

Too much information is another challenge facing many of our clients that want to build a new kitchen or bath. If you search on Houzz.com for a new farmhouse sink, for example, more than 77,000 options are presented. Which one will work best for your needs? That depends again on a number of factors that are not readily known.

Home Improvement Reality TV

Compounding the misinformation on the internet are the reality television shows that generally do not account for the cost of labor in their budget estimates and have timetables that are only achievable with the magic of television. As a result, many homeowners have expectations based on unreliable and unrealistic information by the time they enter the showroom. If you are scratching your head, you are not alone.

Quarter-Sawn Oak and Maple For this display, our designers used a pairing of quarter-sawn oak and painted maple cabinets. The quartz countertop material runs all the way up the wall, replacing a more traditional tile backsplash.

According to a recent survey by LightStream Home Improvement Trends, the top home renovations continue to be in our kitchens and baths. And the reason behind these projects is a desire to love our homes. In fact, 73% of those surveyed reported that they’ve invested in a home improvement project since the pandemic began. The homeowners said they’re currently focused on renovation projects “that provide emotional fulfillment, not just a return on investment”. Fifty one percent said they wanted to feel joyful in their home and 29% said their motivation was to be “happy with a space for years to come”. Here at Cabinets Plus, we’ve felt this first hand. We have never been busier and we love assisting our customers while designing their dream kitchen or bath. The pandemic has increased our business exponentially (thank you) and we have met the challenges with a continued commitment to our clients: to give them the joy inspiring kitchen or bath they have been looking forward to. Right now, people are waiting longer for the finished product, but they keep telling us their joy-inspired project was really worth the wait! It’s our goal to make you happy from the moment you walk through our showroom door until the moment we leave your home for you to enjoy. In fact, during your project you’re given a “Make Me Happy” sheet so when comments or concerns do arise, you have a place to jot them down for us.

Bidets are widely used around the world and are finally finding appreciation in the United States. There are some compelling reasons to add a bidet. First, comfort is key. Cleaning with a bidet is gentler than dry paper. Those with sensitive skin, medical conditions, or limited mobility will definitely appreciate a thorough but kinder type of clean. Secondly, cleaning with a spray of water is more effectively hygienic. Water gives a better clean and it's hands-free. Additionally, bidets are environmentally friendly. Toilet paper is resource intensive with a great deal of wood and water used to produce what is literally just flushed down the toilet.
