TIPS & HINTS
The kitchen and bath professionals at Cabinets Plus would like to share some product tips and hints that we have learned during our many years of kitchen and bath experience.
Cabinets and Humidity
New cabinets set the tone for your new kitchen. Given the proper environment, they’ll maintain their original look for years to come.
If you notice more static electricity around the house, need more lotion on your hands or get a "shocking" kiss, these are all signs that the air is drying out. It happens every fall and lasts through the winter. For cabinets it is also a very tough time of the year. Wood is a natural product, so it absorbs moisture from the air. When moisture levels stay constant, doors stay straight, glue joints hold together and the center panels of your doors don't shrink.
In the Chicago area we all need to use humidifiers during this dry season to keep our homes comfortable. Cabinet manufacturers generally recommend acceptable levels in a range of 35%-65%. Shoot for 45% and you'll be safe. Use a hygrometer to measure the level of humidity in your house. This tool is available at most home centers.
So remember to keep your cabinets and lips safe during the winter,
watch your humidity.
