Choosing a Good Contractor
Choosing the right contractor is just as important to the success of your kitchen or bath as selecting the right products and coming up with the right design.
In the hands of an inexperienced contractor, cabinet doors and drawers may not align properly, countertop and wall edges may not come together precisely, and the overall look of your new kitchen or bath can be a disappointment.
Will you get a warranty? A contract?
What's more, you may not get a proper design or a clear, understandable contract. (Or any contract at all.) Your job may not run smoothly or on time, products may be missing, and you may be left with no one to turn to in the event of any problems. You may not get a warranty.
Especially today, there are a lot of "newbie" contractors trying to get into the business and offering low prices. But why trust an investment in your home to just "a guy" who may or may not be in business tomorrow?
Here are some questions to ask a potential contractor. Will your "guy"
- Guide you through the design process to make the very best use of your space?
- Help you through the product selection process, simplifying the potentially overwhelming task of picking the best products for your unique project?
- Provide a beautiful showroom for you to "one-stop shop"?
- Provide you with an easy to read and understandable contract and change orders, if applicable, with no fine print and no surprises at the end of the job?
- Order your products and take full responsibility that they will fit and function properly?
- Track delivery schedules and follow up on back orders to assure their timely arrival?
- Inspect all items when they are received, verifying they are the correct parts and that they are not damaged or defective?
- Warehouse and stage all products for your job before he actually comes to do the work?
- Communicate an agreed upon starting date for your project at least two weeks in advance?
- Provide a construction schedule for you on the first day of the job, and follow it?
- Protect the areas around where he is working in your home?
- Clean up his mess at the end of each day?
- Communicate with you as your project progresses?
- Have your designer make periodic jobsite inspections to confirm your plans are being properly executed?
- Haul away all the debris from the jobsite?
- Provide all product guides and warranty information for your records?
- Have your designer do a "walk through" and generate a "punch list" to correct any final details with you?
- Allow you to retain 20% of the job price until you are satisfied and the job is complete?
- Perform any service calls that are required for a full 3 years after completing your kitchen or bath?
- Continue to be your "resource" even after your warranty period is over?
Ask your "Guy" these questions first, so you understand what your responsibility
will be. Then ask Cabinets Plus, and we believe you will see a big difference in our service, warranty, longevity and professionalism.
And then we think you will ask yourself...
Why Trust My Home to Anyone But Cabinets Plus?
